Everything the plastic remote does, and more

  • D-pad or swipe

Tap the arrows and a big OK button, or swipe across the screen like a touchpad.

  • Type with your phone

Search with your phone's keyboard. Text appears on the TV as you type, and you can paste too.

  • Voice search

Hold the voice button and speak. The audio goes straight to your TV.

  • Volume you can see

See the TV's current volume level as you change it. On Android, your phone's volume buttons work too.

  • Knows if the TV is on

The power button turns green or red, and the app shows what's playing right now.

  • Your apps, one tap away

Pin YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video and others, or add your own.

  • Quick actions

Inputs, captions, recent apps, sound output, search YouTube or Prime Video, and more.

  • Several TVs

Pair every TV in the house, give them names, and switch between them.

  • Messages on the TV

Pop a message up on the screen, like "Dinner's ready". Needs a free helper app on the TV.

Which TVs work?

Any TV or streaming box running Google TV or Android TV that works with Google's own TV remote app: Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamer, and TVs from Sony, TCL, Hisense, Philips and others. Your phone and TV need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.

Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV and Samsung or LG TVs without Google TV aren't supported.
